Teaching performance trad climbing
This is a one day course aimed at instructors who are working with clients looking to lead VS or harder. We'll be looking at the progression from when people start to lead climb to when they are working through grades and how you can help to manage this safely and offer suitable advice. It will give 1 CPD point for AMI members.
The day will involve:
- Introductions and peoples backgrounds in teaching trad climbing.
- Looking at progression from starting to lead to performance trad end and differences in what they need.
- Common areas for improvement.
- Need to develop risk assessment skills and planning for potential falls and procedures for this.
- Lead climb coaching and route choice.
- A look at where bouldering, sport and training can integrate with trad goals.
- Feedback on the day.
